Superman's Birthday Cake

My daughter loves to decorate with M and M's.  Her littlest guy, Josiah, loves Superman!  A perfect marriage of both.  He loved his 4th birthday cake!

Photo Shoot!

My hubby had a great time at a recent photo shoot of him and his four grandchildren.  It was his birthday present from his daughter, the mommy.  I went along too, as a groupie.  Here are the finished photos he took to his office.  But the memories of the laughter and the fun we had was much better!!!

Prayer needed

I am scared to death of hurricanes.  And one is headed our way.  Please pray that I can feel unafraid and that no trees come down on the roof!

Old apron from my mom.....

Been thinking about aprons again......I have a collection of old and new, handed down from family and newly purchased from a great apron maker I found on the MJF site.  This apron is an old one that I got from my mom's collection.  This was right before Christmas last year, and we were making Christmas cookies!  The girls are very serious about their cookie making.  Now, during canning season, I am wearing my aprons more and more and for the original reason.....I want to keep my clothes clean and free from splatter!

Home Milk Pastuerizer...

While in Iowa last fall, I found this really cool thing in an old barn filled with treasures.  I had never seen a home milk pastuerizer before.  Isn't it neat?  I need to research it and find out how long it took to do it and how common they were.  I wish it had been for sale.

Blessed Again!

Hello, it has been forever!!!!  Today I added a couple of words to my blog title.  Lately when I facebook or post recent activities to folks, I find myself adding the two words "Blessed Again" at the end.  It is because I see how God is blessing me in this life, even in times of pain, fear and trial.  Being with family, having a pedicure, gardening, doing a Bible study......the things that happen in my daily life....are God's small but powerful blessings gifted to me and those around me.  So when you think of Jeannie's Place,  I hope you are blessed again, too.  Will try to post more frequently in the future.  I find myself on facebook more and more, but will include this place too, in hopes of finding more friends and getting and giving more blessings.....love you!

I love my gardens! They feed us, but we do not have to get up each day and feed them.

Well, here is the day's pickin's.  Spring onions, tomatoes, peas and the very last of the broccoli.  Which my friend Julia will appreciate because she does not like broccoli!!!  Right Julia?  :)

A family member of mine raises sheep and goats, and it is lambing time.  What hard work.  I think I am better suited to planting seeds, and picking veggies.  That way I can sleep in a little.

Blessings at the beach.....

At the condo in Ormond Beach.  It has been a balmy tropical week with sunshine, breezes and the most wonderful thing.  Today I saw something for the first time in my life.  It was a rainbow cloud.  Not a rainbow but a cloud that was pink, blue, green and absolutely beautiful.  There were three of them!  White clouds were wisping below them, and the high clouds were lovely colors!  It was not raining.  I later read online that these clouds are high and have to be full of a certain type of ice crystal to show colors.  When I see something like this, I know it a delight from God and He is gracing us with even more beauty than He gives us in each day.  I wish I could have captured it on my camera, but could not.  Look it up online.  You will see photos of what I am trying to describe.  And even if you see a scientific explanation, we all know that God is the Great Scientist.....the Great Creator.  Bless you all.  It has been wonderful week with just hubby and me.  And the ocean, and the wind, and the sand.....

Happy Easter to All!

The Lord is so gracious to us.  All of our blessings, even those we do not even realize, come from Him.  I hope your Easter this year is a time of awakening to the Holy Spirit, refreshing your soul and allowing any doubt to fall away.  I pray this for all of you who read this.  He is risen!!!

Continuing on the garden theme.....

The sugar snap peas are actually twice as tall as this photo taken only a week ago.  We have had soft, rainy days, and cool nights.....all the things that gardens love.  And the weeds love it too.....ugh.  :)

Broccoli......lots and lots

Well, the broccoli is doing right fine this winter.  The bag full you see here is about the fourth bag I have cut, and there is lots more still on the stem.  Put my snap peas in two weeks ago, they are peeking out about two inches now, and this week-end I am going to have to get the stakes in and give them something to hang on to as they get tall.  Now if I could only ban all weeds from the garden, things would be wonderful!!!  :)  For those of you who visit my blog, wish I could bring a bag of broccoli to your door this evening.

Fresh Eggs

I do not have my own chickens. (Though it would be fun if I did.)  So friends share with me when they can, and yesterday I received some that were REALLY fresh.  It was the first time they ever came to me with part of the nest and even a few feathers included!  This is exactly how they looked when I opened the bag.  Aren't they beautiful?  I have a cake in the oven right now and I used three of them in the batter......

The owner said they were her children's Easter chickens from last year, and now they are giving eggs....so cool.

Butterfly Whisperer

The header photo on this blog shows a Monarch Butterfly.  Each year they migrate over the ocean to a place called St. Mark's Wildlife Refuge on our own North Florida coastline.  A day trip there will allow you to see hundreds literally dripping off the flowering bushes along the bay.  But a few renegades always make their way to Tallahassee, and cling to our gardens too.  It is exquisite to see.  My granddaughter can actually catch them, without harm.  I call her the butterfly whisperer.  It takes patience and quiet movements, but she reaches out and clasps them by their closed wings, only to let them go moments later.

New Dining table arrived!

In 34 years of marriage, this is our first new dining table.  Goodwill is now the proud owner of our very tired Duncan Phyfe 1940's table.....someone will love it I know, but I am loving this one!  We found it in North Carolina last fall.  Now we can seat 8 with the leaf.

Less is more?

Well, we are waiting on a new dining room table to be delivered from North Carolina.  In the meantime, we gave our old one to Goodwill.  So we put a little chestnut table and two chairs in its place so we could have a place to eat, and it looks so cozy!  It could not seat eight, which is what our family has grown to, but I loved the space and the warm little place it provided for us to read the paper in the morn and have dinner in the eve.

Christmas Day - part of the fam

It was a great Christmas.  It has been so long since I entered anything in my blog, that I found my browser did not support the blog anymore, so I do not know what I am doing at this point or how this will look!  But the photo shows our newest little one opening a gift, which in her world means eating the paper.

Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville Wisconsin

This is the church my maternal grandparents helped found.  It is still very active, and as we walked through we saw lots of sunday school rooms and places for youth to gather......very much a family church even today.  It sits just a block or two from the house I posted below, and was in walking distance for my great-grandparents on Sundays.

Original kitchen in the little house in Daleyville.....

Restored, this kitchen is just as beautiful as it was new......LOVE the cabinetry!!!  And the floors were so mellow and smooth.
